The long-awaited debut of Marvel’s VisionQuest is nearly upon us, and if the first reactions are to be believed, we’re in for a treat. It seems like Marvel has delivered a truly satisfying conclusion to the story which began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. In particular, it sounds like James Spader is amazing in his return as Ultron, but that doesn’t surprise me in the least. It’s a crime he hasn’t returned until now.
As for us here at JoBlo, we felt VisionQuest was a “full circle moment for MCU on Disney+. Paul Bettany is great in a long overdue return as Vision while James Spader steals the show as Ultron. Heartfelt, innovative, and the most fun Marvel Telvision has been in quite some time.”

VisionQuest First Reactions
Josh Wilding for Comic Book Movie said, “2 episodes into #VisionQuest, and it’s shaping up to be the perfect conclusion to the #WandaVision trilogy, full of the same heart, humour, and bonkers imagery. Bettany & Spader are magnetic in this mind-bending digital delight. @MarvelStudios has done it again!“
Demet K. of NexusPointNews added, “#VisionQuest is a worthy successor to WandaVision and it feels like a love letter to Wanda Maximoff at times. It tackles the themes of love, grief, generational trauma, and identity. The relationship between Tommy and Vision will leave you wanting more from this family. James Spader is a delight and Emily Hampshire is a surprisingly entertaining addition.“
MovieWeb’s Molly Freeman said, “I’ve seen the first few episodes of #VisionQuest and it’s great. The writing is on par with WandaVision, and it has a very grounded, human aspect at its heart. Feels very entrenched in the MCU (like Brand New Day) and delivers some fun twists.“
Adding to the praise is Daniel Baptista, who said, “#VISIONQUEST is trippy, transcendent, and totally terrific. It’s also a surprisingly transformative and thoughtful exploration of the beauty and humanity behind the machine. Terry Matalas has created a deeply moving and visually stunning series that finds genuine emotion at its core. Paul Bettany and James Spader have never been better.“
Aeron Eclarinal of The Direct said VisionQuest is Marvel’s best TV show of the year. “Insightful, emotionally precise, and mind-bending, it’s a reminder of why the MCU still owns the small screen when it trusts the story. The series delivers a genuine love letter to WandaVision fans, moving the story into something deeper & more mature that serves as a perfect closer to the trilogy. Paul Bettany shines in every episode, while James Spader’s Ultron is exactly what the show needs.“
Justin Lawrence of Geekcentric said, “#VisionQuest is the kind of Marvel TV I want more of. It’s funny, full of personality, and builds on what made WandaVision special. Paul Bettany is terrific, but Emily Hampshire and James Spader are the absolute STANDOUTS. A story about AI with nothing artificial about its HEART.“
And Brandon Davis added, “#VisionQuest is a fantastic sequel to WandaVision. It’s smart, weird, ambitious, and creative with a beating father/son heart. My favorite part; it seems to love being a part of the MCU and embracing as many corners as it can. As a longtime fan, it’s very rewarding. Loved it.“
Wow, it sounds like Terry Matalas and the cast have knocked this one out of the park, but we’ll find out for ourselves very soon as VisionQuest is set to debut on Disney+ on October 14.
