*Heartstopper* is one of the most important queer cultural phenomena of its generation. Encompassing a comic, a television series and several novellas, it helped bring stories of queer joy to a vast mainstream audience. Some have criticised the show for being overly twee, describing its portrayal of young queer life as "unrealistic", but I've never agreed with that. This is the movie that ended the Heartstopper series. I know that this will probably not be a popular opinion, but I actually found the movie a bit disappointing. I thought that much of it was boring and instead of trying to give a well-rounded ending to the characters, it fell flat. I won't spoil anything about the details, but basically it turns out that Nick had his own issues that he never dealt with and about 98% of the movie deals with that. Most of the scenes with him and Charlie were pointless and/or depressing. Honestly, I'm glad they did this at the end of the series because if they had started off with this movie, I wouldn't have been interested enough to watch the series. For such a powerful and impactful series to come to a close on such a boring, mostly one-sided note, it was a letdown.
