THR reports that LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn will star in Molepeople for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Primal. Rob Savage (Other Mommy) will direct from a script by Nathan Elston. During New York Comic-Con, Savage teased that the film is a subterranean horror movie “in the vein of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.” I’m down.

Molepeople

Molepeople will follow “a man who descends into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City, where he discovers a twisted society lurking beneath the streets.” Production is slated to begin in the U.K. at the end of November or in early December. Always love a good subterranean creature movie, so I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

The film is set to be co-financed and co-produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution. Producers include Jason Blum, Paramount Primal’s J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, and James Harris. Executive producers include Ryan Turek, Tracy Rosenblum, Elston, and Savage.

Molepeople has already been slated for an August 27, 2027 release.

Other Mommy

Savage has a film in theaters right now, but it’s been receiving scathing reviews. Other Mommy stars Jessica Chastain as a mother who must do everything to protect her daughter from a supernatural entity that resembles her.

Initially, there was some real hype for Other Mommy, particularly after the teaser trailer attached to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey scared the hell out of audiences. Unfortunately, once it was released, that hype vanished. Our own Tyler Nichols was disappointed, saying the film was “nothing more than lame jump scares and Jessica Chastain trying to make the most of it.“

He continued, “Sadly, despite a promising trailer, Other Mommy follows the usual Blumhouse formula, focusing more on a viral marketing campaign than on making a legitimately good film. While the visuals can be top-notch, the story is a constant letdown, prioritizing jump scares over meaningful connection with the audience.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Hopefully, Molepeople fares better.
