Poison Ivy may be getting her very own live-action TV series. According to Deadline, a series revolving around the Batman villain is back in the works after being paused due to the Paramount and Warner Bros. merger. Additionally, Lauren LeFranc, showrunner and executive producer of the highly acclaimed Penguin TV series, is in talks to join the Poison Ivy project.
Poison Ivy TV Series
At this time, LeFranc would only be involved as a producer on the Poison Ivy series and would not be writing. There are currently no writers or cast attached to the project as it’s still in the early stages.
Should the series get picked up, it would air on HBO just like The Penguin. However, unlike The Penguin, this one would not be part of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.
One of Batman’s Classic Villains
Poison Ivy, aka Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, was created by artist Carmine Infantino and writers Sheldon Moldoff and Robert Kanigher, and first appeared in Batman #181 in 1966. She has the power to control all plant life, complete immunity to all toxins and poisons, and the ability to project mind-controlling pheromones.
The character has been brought to life many times since her introduction, but she’s never been the main focus of a movie or TV show. Most are familiar with her live-action debut in Batman & Robin, with Uma Thurman playing the role. Other incarnations of the character can be found in Batman: The Animated Series, Gotham, Batwoman, and so many more. More recently, she’s been voiced by Lake Bell in Harley Quinn and played the titular character’s girlfriend.
The Penguin Season 2?
The first season of The Penguin was very successful, but it remains to be seen if we’ll get another season. Colin Farrell does love playing the character, but he’s not a fan of the make-up process. Still, Matt Reeves has teased that it’s a possibility. “We’re in discussions. [Showrunner] Lauren [Lefranc] is thinking hard and we’re talking, so we’ll see,” he said. “We love the show, and we think our cast is so incredible. The work that Lauren and the writers did was incredible. Our passion was in it, but never in our wildest dreams could we imagine it would have been received in the way that it was.“
